On Nov. 30, the Fort Worth Fire Department turns 150 years old. To help celebrate this event, the department is hosting a food drive.

The backstory

According to a fire department Facebook post, the department’s initial 20 years of service was provided by volunteers. 130 years ago, paid firefighters began serving the community.

In honor of the 150th birthday, the post stated that the department is hosting a food drive on Nov. 30 to support the Tarrant Area Food Bank, with a goal to bring in 130 to 150 pounds of food.


Those interested in supporting the food drive can bring in non-perishable items to any fire station or to the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex located at 505 W. Felix St. in Fort Worth.

In other news

Two other Fort Worth institutions are also having major birthdays in 2023. According to a Texas Christian University news release, the school itself and the Fort Worth Police Department will join the Fort Worth Fire Department in turning 150 years old.
