Fort Worth is a bit more crowded, it’s for good reason. According to the
Texas Demographic Center, Fort Worth’s population grew more than any other Texas city between January 2020 and January 2023.
Zooming inThe Texas Demographic Center stated that Fort Worth gained 48,542 residents over the last three years. The city’s current population is 967,457. During that same time, the center stated that Dallas gained 5,500 residents.
Zooming outAccording to the Texas Demographic Center, other cities that saw major population growth included:
- San Antonio with 41,750 people
- Lewisville with 24,680 people
- Fulshear with 22,701 people
- McKinney with 22,364 people
In terms of counties, Collin County—which gained 125,646 residents—had the biggest population increase of any county in Texas, the Texas Demographic Center stated. Other counties with large increases in population include:
- Harris with 114,318
- Denton with 89,088
- Williamson with 74,146
- Montgomery with 69,971
- Tarrant with 56,489
As a region, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex had the largest population increase among all of the state’s metropolitan areas. According to the Texas Demographic Center, Dallas-Fort Worth added 423,141 residents from January 2020 to Jan. 1, 2023, for a total population of 8.06 million.
Texas gained 1.16 million residents—a 4% increase—from January 2020 to Jan. 1, the Texas Demographic Center stated.
