The gist
Finalized district boundary changes include:
- A new elementary school boundary for Romer Elementary School
- A new middle school boundary for Barksdale Middle School
- Shifting some of Chisholm Trail Middle School’s boundaries to Pike Middle School
- Shifting Berkshire Elementary School to fully feed into Adams Middle School
- Shifting school boundaries for Hatfield and Praire View elementary schools in preparation for future home development
Daniel Elementary School, Lance Thompson Elementary School and a portion of Justin Elementary School zoning is set to feed into Barksdale Middle School.
Hatfield Elementary School and a portion of Perrin Elementary School zoning is now set to feed into Pike Middle School to balance middle school enrollment, according to the district. The shift for Berkshire Elementary School's feeding pattern will mitigate Worthington Middle School’s current overcapacity population.
Diving in deeper
Sarah Stewart, NISD's interim chief of facilities, said all students affected by rezoning and entering 5th-8th grade in 2026-27 can choose to stay at their current campus but will not receive transportation.
“When you’re grandfathered in, you don’t get transportation because that’s an added cost to the district to have to bus those kids to a different campus than where they live,” Stewart said.
Exceptions will be made for special education accommodations, according to the district. Younger siblings will not be included in the grandfathering process.
Looking ahead
Families interested in keeping their student at their current school will receive a link to submit a transfer request from Feb. 1-20, according to the district.
Community members will be able to find the finalized zoning boundaries on the NISD website in the coming weeks, NISD Executive Director of Communications Anthony Tosie said.
