Northwest ISD will have three community meetings to receive feedback about proposed attendance boundary changes as new schools open in the district.

What you need to know

NISD is opening Romer Elementary School and Barksdale Middle School in 2026, which will lead to rezoning at the elementary and middle school levels for the 2026-27 school year according to a release from the district.

The changes will balance campus enrollments for safe and effective learning environments and to prepare new feeder patterns in the future, according to the release. NISD stated its main priorities are to prevent overcrowding, maintain student/teacher ratios, improve school efficiency and consider other new campus openings.

There are three opportunities for families to provide feedback on the changes. Each meeting is scheduled from 6-6:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 11 at Berkshire Elementary School: boundary adjustments from Worthington Middle School to Adams Middle School
  • Dec. 16 at Carter Elementary School: boundary adjustments for Carter, Hatfield, Prairie View and Sendera Ranch elementary schools
  • Dec. 17 at Daniel Elementary School: boundary adjustments for Medlin, Pike and Chisholm Trail middle schools
An additional meeting will be held the week of Jan. 5 if needed. Families can also email feedback to [email protected].

The background

NISD has increased its enrollment by 1,200 students per year for more than two decades, according to the district.

Carter and Prairie View elementary schools are expected to be over capacity by 2026 and 2027, respectively. Worthington Middle School is currently over capacity and Pike and Chisholm Trail middle schools are expected to reach overcapacity by 2026 and 2028, respectively.

Current recommended boundary changes would lower the student populations for all but one elementary school and for all middle schools.

Romer Elementary School is currently under construction along Wagon Trail Trail in Fort Worth and Barksdale middle school will be located near the Pecan Square community in Northlake. They are two of multiple facilities the district is constructing from a $2 billion bond package that voters passed in May 2023 to address NISD’s growth.
