The details
Dozens of district administrators and alumni attended the anniversary event at Northwest High School's campus. The superintendent, former administrators and graduates, including the city of Roanoke’s Mayor Scooter Gierisch, who graduated from the school in 1984, gave special remarks during the event.
“I experienced a unique chapter in a close-knit, rural community,” Gierisch said to Community Impact.
The history
The single school-house districts that includes the cities of Haslet, Justin, Rhome and Roanoke united to form Northwest ISD in 1949, according to the district website. The district consolidated with Fairview and Newark high schools soon after, which led to the creation of Northwest High School and the district’s first football team in 1973.
Northwest ISD currently serves more than 32,000 students from three counties and 14 municipalities.
