Northwest ISD's first early childhood center will be named after Dr. David Hicks, the former superintendent of the district.

The details

The Dr. Hicks Early Childhood Center, which will be located in Fort Worth, will open in August 2026 for the 2026-27 school year, according to a district news release. It will serve pre-kindergarten-aged children and supplement existing pre-K classes available at Northwest ISD's elementary schools.

The Northwest ISD board of trustees unanimously voted to name the facility after Hicks, according to the news release. He passed away unexpectedly in September 2022 less than six months into his tenure.

The location of the early childhood center will be off FM 156 between Hillshire Drive and East Bonds Ranch Road.

What else?

The Dr. Hicks Early Childhood Center was one of four early childhood centers approved by voters in the 2023 bond election, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The purpose of the centers is to cater to young children's development before starting elementary school.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be announced at a later date for the facility.
