To help Keller ISD families plan for changes to school day scheduling and extracurricular activities due to inclement weather typically associated with the upcoming winter season, the district has several different platforms to keep residents up to date on school closings and delays.

What you need to know

KISD officials maintain a winter weather policy webpage. It states that the official notice for Keller ISD school closings or delays will first be posted to the district’s website, where a pop-up alert will appear on the homepage.

Other platforms to get weather-related information for the district include:
  • Email notification - emails will be sent to all Keller ISD families, staff and students
  • Keller ISD mobile app - anyone who has downloaded the Keller ISD mobile app will receive a push notification to their mobile device
  • Social media - Keller ISD officials will also post information regarding closures or delay to the district’s Facebook and X accounts
According to the district’s winter weather webpage, Keller ISD does not recommend that residents attempt to call the district or an individual campus unless there is an emergency. The superintendent must make the decision to close schools by 5:30 a.m. or earlier the day of the closing or delay.

A closer look

The website states decisions concerning inclement weather closures or delays are based upon several factors, including:
  • Information on road conditions from transportation department staff and local police
  • Amount of snow and ice accumulated
  • Building, parking lot and sidewalk conditions
  • Temperature, wind chill and weather forecasts
  • What other area school districts are doing
Before you go

According to the website, should weather conditions worsen during the school day, district officials may need to call for an early dismissal. Parents and guardians will be notified of early dismissals before they occur so they can plan accordingly.

If classes are canceled, the website states all after-school activities are presumed cancelled, as well. However, student groups may be contacted by their respective faculty advisor with alternate plans.

In a situation where classes are not cancelled—such as early dismissal for worsening weather during the school day—the website states district officials will attempt to make decisions about after-school activities no later than 2 p.m.
