The details
Kelly said she is a lifelong resident of North Texas and attended Keller ISD schools growing up. Her family has lived in the district for 10 years. District documents state Kelly was part of a field of applicants that also included:
- Summer Crow
- Dixie Davis
- James Dunn
- Ashley Flowers
The Place 3 seat was vacated when Sandi Walker resigned in February following an interview she conducted with an evangelical film crew from the Netherlands at Central High School in Keller while school was in session and several students were filmed.
Chief Communications Officer Bryce Nieman said the board chose to appoint a replacement for the vacant Place 3 seat rather than hold a special election because of the cost associated with the latter.
Nieman said the appointment would fill the Place 3 seat for the remainder of the term, which expires in May 2025. Kelly would have to run for re-election at that time if she wishes to remain in the seat.
Quote of note
“As someone who has a family in the district and someone who is a Keller ISD native, I want to help,” Kelly said. “I’ve been helping with PTA and things like that, but now I get to help in a bigger way, and that’s really important to me.”
