The updated timeline was approved by Roanoke City Council at the Nov. 25 meeting.
“Clearing the final hurdles with City Council last week was a significant milestone for our $48 million investment, and we're eager to move forward,” Dickson said.
What’s happening?
Construction for the first five baseball fields will be completed by September and the remaining three fields will finish by February 2027, Dickson said.
The retail and trails portion of the project is estimated to start construction this summer and finish by summer 2027, he said.
Though the construction was initially planned to begin in fall 2024, there was a delay after a water agreement with the city of Fort Worth fell though, Dickson said. The developers needed to run a 4,000-foot water line down SH 114 to the complex to bring water onsite.
“The initial event we held alongside the city of Roanoke and community leaders still resonates strongly, marking the exciting start of this transformative development, " Dickson said. “Our focus now is on execution and delivering the best sports complex in North Texas—and potentially the state.”
The overview
The facility will be located on 122 acres at the intersection of SH 114 and Cleveland Gibbs Road. It will include eight baseball fields alongside dining, retail and trails, according to Play it Forward’s website. The fields can also be used for softball, football, lacrosse and other sports.
The Roanoke Sports Complex will provide training opportunities and host sporting tournaments for young athletes, according to its website.
Play it Forward is partnering with Prep Baseball, an independent scouting service for amateur baseball players, to host 44 weeks of youth baseball events at the sports complex and eight weeks of national tournaments annually, according to a July release from the organization.
These events are expected to bring in 2.2 million annual visitors to Roanoke, per the release.
