In 2014, married couple Trisha and Nate Baughman started Time to Shine Performing Arts as a summer camp. Over the ensuing decade, the couple held strong to their kid-first mission and made their dreams a reality.

How we got here

The Baughmans opened Time to Shine Performing Arts in the summer of 2014.

The first event they held was a two-week summer musical theater camp called Camp Shine.

“At this particular camp, 36 campers ... and four staff members created a fantastic production filled with acting, singing, dancing, costumes, sets, props and lights,” Trisha Baughman said in an email.

Trisha said her ultimate vision and goal was to create a year-round performing arts training studio. As the summer camps grew each year and families planned their summers around Camp Shine, the vision more clearly came into view, Trisha said.

“In fall 2020, when COVID[-19] was still very much at the forefront of life, we took a chance on making that dream come true,” Trisha said. “Time to Shine started daily after-school classes in the ballroom of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel and [we] created our very first Troupe Performance team.”

Current situation

By January 2021, the business moved into its current home and the programming, teaching staff and talent of the students grew with each new semester.

“Our studio is unique in that it is truly a centralized location for our community, and this unique space allows us to have a small theatre where audiences are immersed into the production,” Trisha said.

When they moved into the space there was a theatre, one dance studio, one music room and one office. This past May, they expanded and now have three dance studios, four music rooms and four offices.

“This location, and the way that we are able to use all of our spaces, especially with sold-out audiences at performances, is very special,” Trisha said.

The specifics

Time to Shine provides training in musical theatre, dance, acting, singing, piano and guitar in weekly classes. Private lessons are also available in those same areas of performing arts, including college and audition prep. In the summer, 25 camps in all areas of performing arts styles are offered. Time to Shine Performing Arts offers 13 musical performances each year.

A long time coming

In May 2025, a party celebrating the successful completion of five years of Time to Shine will be held. Former and current families will be invited to be a part of the celebration.

Quote of note

“To create a performing arts environment where kids truly come first and every single student has their time to shine continues to be the driving mission of the studio,” Trisha said. “We are beyond excited that Time to Shine is beginning its fifth year of year-round training in musical theatre, dance, acting, singing, piano and guitar.”
