White’s Chapel Methodist Church's expansion plans approved by Southlake council

For the second time in three months, Southlake City Council approved expansion plans for White’s Chapel Methodist Church.

At the Feb. 3 meeting, Brent Kline of architecture firm Kline Hardin, on behalf of the church, requested a zoning change and concept/site plan approval for the property at 185 S. White Chapel Blvd.

The plans call for the construction of a youth activity center and expansion to Education Building B, according to the presentation.

The details

Phase 1 of the project includes a two-story addition to the Youth Activity Center, with 17,337 square feet added on the north side of the existing Children’s Education Building. There will also be a parking lot expansion, adding 14 parking spots, according to the presentation.

A zoning change was required due to plans to add a third story and an additional 10,273 square feet in the future to the Education Building B, according to city documents.

The second phase of the construction would be a new foundry space designed for contemporary worship services, seating 578 occupants. This addition will include tiered worship seating, a new choir rehearsal space, dressing rooms and storage areas for touring groups, according to city documents.

The expansion to the existing Worship Center will be two stories in height and total 29,602 square feet. Before construction starts, a portion of the existing Worship Center’s back-of-house areas will be demolished to accommodate the new structure.

The background

During the Dec. 2 meeting, plans were approved for the church to construct a new 9,942-square-foot two-story structure that will be used to replace two existing buildings: the classroom facility and the maintenance building.

The change would eliminate 17 parking spots, but the church still has the minimum parking requirements after the reduction in spaces, according to city documents.

Also on the agenda

During the consent agenda, the March 17 City Council meeting was canceled due to spring break for Carroll ISD students and families.

Also on the consent agenda was a resolution for a general election May 2 for City Council places 1 and 6. The final day to file for election is Feb. 13, and as of Feb. 11, there are two uncontested races.

Gary Fawks has filed for Place 1, while Eric Wang has filed for the Place 6 vacancies. If neither has an opponent, the City Council will likely vote to cancel the election, as they did in 2024, according to previous reporting.
