What's happening
Council Member Steve Flynn requested the vote for the July 28 meeting agenda following public comments made during the July 14 meeting. A vote of no confidence is a formal vote by which members of a legislature or similar deliberative body indicate that they no longer support a leader.
“The residents have brought it up and made it pretty clear that their request is for us to address the issue,” he said.
Bauer was at the meeting after missing the previous two sessions.
Zooming in
Bauer is accused of stealing between $30,000 and $150,000, according to online documents from the Denton County District Clerk website. A warrant was issued from a May 8 indictment.
According to the Trophy Club Charter, the mayor or council member shall forfeit his/her office on four conditions, including if convicted of a felony crime or is convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.
Council must vote by an affirmative three-fourths of the full membership, being six of seven members, to determine a forfeiture of office, the charter states.
The background
Bauer was arrested June 4 and Shawn Cagle from City Hall Bail Bond in Denton posted a $5,000 surety bond June 5 to allow her to leave jail, according to county documents.
Information provided by the Denton County District Clerk said Bauer was the president and treasurer of the Bobcat Youth Football Organization and president of the Bobcat Youth Track and Field Association in Roanoke. She is alleged to have embezzled up to $150,000 in funds and equipment from 2021 to 2023.
The Bobcat Youth Football Organization uses fields on campuses of numerous Northwest ISD schools, according to its website.
Bauer was set to return to court July 18 to face the third-degree felony charge, but it postponed to July 25, according to county online records.
She has been the Place 1 Council Member since 2023, winning a race for an open spot that spring.
What else?
Former Trophy Club Council Member Danny Mayer and Jared King both spoke in the public comment portion of the meeting. Bauer did not enter the council chamber for the meeting until after public comments were over.
Mayer called for Bauer’s resignation and urged the council to take a vote of no confidence.
