Souvenir shop Texas General Store serves as a place to take visiting family and friends for a reminder of Texas.
What’s special about it?
Store manager Sherry Barge said Texas General Store offers products that can represent Texas to travelers, from food to souvenirs. Products include books, crosses, garden flags, home decor, mugs and tabletop gifts in the shape of tiny boots.
Customers can also make their own custom cowboy hat with stitching, branding and accents at the store.
“We hope you can find anything, a little bit of Texas to take with you,” Barge said.
Store owner Jessica Cruz said they also provide locally made products such as hot sauces, seasonings and pickled food. She said there are not many other stores that provide the variety that Texas General Store does.
“We constantly have people that say they’ve had to hunt us out and find us because it’s something that customers need,” she said.
Some context
Texas General Store used to be on Main Street for 11 years and operated under a different name for four years before that. Cruz said it’s been at Grapevine Mills for a year so far.
Grapevine Mills ranked as the No. 8 best mall in the United States in October, according to the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau. The mall has implemented a number of attractions over the years, including Legoland, Meow Wolf, Bubble Planet and DIG World.
“The mix of experience versus shopping is a perfect marriage here at the mall,” she said.
Barge said the store has seen more foreigners visiting since its move to Grapevine Mills. Despite the different environment, she said the store’s focus has remained consistent.
“We like to say we’re the same people whether we’re here or there,” Barge said.

Texas General Store now has two other locations in Mineral Wells and at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. The DFW Airport location opened Nov. 19, Barge said.
Cruz said that while the store is not focused on expanding, the team considers impact and personal relationships before opening a new location.
“We definitely have a strong relationship with Grapevine,” Cruz said. “Grapevine was our flagship location. Grapevine has taken care of us for all these years.”
