Ashley Reed will open Galaxy Skate in Grapevine on Oct. 15 and will hold an official grand opening Oct. 18.
Reed calls herself an avid roller skate enthusiast who started her professional career as an accountant. After a few years, she started thinking about opening her own business. She officially created Galaxy Skate as a business in May of 2024.
Reed found what she called a diamond in the rough in the form of SkateTown, a business that operated in Grapevine from 1997 until closing in 2021.
The owner of InterSkate Roller Rink in Lewisville suggested she look at the vacant property.
“It was perfect,” she said. “We had a roller coaster of luck; it was the right place at the right time. I felt the building was waiting for us.”
She got the keys to the location Aug. 23 and the renovations of new carpet and paint started.
“During the pandemic, a lot of people started skating outside,” Reed said. “Gen Z or Gen Alpha needed someone to bring skating back for this generation with new ideas.”
She said Galaxy Skate will offer roller skating, an arcade and karaoke rooms, mixing in nostalgia with what’s new. She said there will be Sip & Skate events for parents and the Texas Rink Rats, a roller derby term, will hold practice in Grapevine.
