Britt Buchwald started Britt’s Sno House, a snow cone shop in Colleyville, in July 2010.

“It was my dad’s idea, and he thought it would sell well,” Buchwald said. “I thought, ‘Well, might as well try it.’ And it did well.”

Buchwald said he enjoys running the snow cone business.

“Everyone is happy to see you,” Buchwald said. “It’s just really fun to see how happy people get when they come here and how excited kids get, and people like the fun flavors.”

Buchwald said the Sno House has several unique qualities that set it apart from other places.

“We are different,” Buchwald said. “I make half my own syrups; I think my jubilees set us apart.”

Buchwald’s jubilees are syrup mixes made with pureed fruit and other ingredients developed from his own recipes, including a strawberry jubilee and a pickle brine syrup. He also makes his own gourmet flavors and cream.

“I came up with my own recipe for my cream that’s thicker and I think sweeter, and people really like it a lot,” Buchwald said.

The quality of the shaved ice at Britt’s Sno House is another one of the business’s traits, Buchwald said.

“I have a process I go through that takes a lot of time to get the ice just right,” Buchwald said. “People tell me a lot that, ‘Your ice is a lot better than everyone else’s.’ It’s like snow.”

Britt’s Sno House offers several sizes of snow cones, including a 32-ounce “Monster Cup” for $5.50.  Any snow cone can have a scoop of vanilla ice cream added in it for an extra dollar, or it can be topped with chili lime salt, cream, candy, sour spray or sprinkles for an extra
50 cents.

In April, Buchwald added a catering truck to the business, in which Britt’s snow cones can be sold at parties and events. So far Buchwald said he has sold from the truck at the Colleyville farmers market and library parties, and he is about to do several back-to-school events.

“Consistency, I think is key,” Buchwald said. “I try to take what I do in here [at the stand] and replicate that on the truck.”
