Frisco nonprofit organizations respond to concerns over coronavirus spread

In an email, director of strategy Joni Klarin said Frisco Family Services anticipates fewer volunteers, more financial need from current clients and an influx of new clients, as some may have to take work off without sick pay.

Klarin said the need at the food pantry may also increase as schools extend their spring break, since students already on free and reduced lunch will need additional help.

Frisco ISD announced March 12 it will extend its spring break by one week. Schools are out March 9-13 for spring break and will now be closed the week of March 16 as well.

Refresh Frisco is a nonprofit offering FISD students personal hygiene packs every quarter.

Due to coronavirus concerns, new families who sign up for the program will now be accommodated immediately and will receive hygiene packs at schools within days of enrollment, Refresh Frisco President Elizabeth Watkins said in an email.

Families interested in a hygiene pack from Refresh Frisco can reach out to their school nurse or counselor. Students must qualify for the free and reduced lunch program through FISD.
