For the second weekend in a row, a contractor will spray five new mosquito pools in Frisco that have tested positive for West Nile virus. Spraying will begin at 9 p.m. July 23 and 24.

No human cases of the virus have been reported so far.

The new pools bring Frisco's total to 13 pools that tested positive for West Nile virus this year.

“Due to early rains and current hot temperatures, experts tell us to expect an elevated risk of mosquito-borne illness this year,” Environmental Health Supervisor Julie Stallcup said in a news release.

The contractor will use a utility task vehicle to ground spray off-road areas surround the five pools. Click here to see where ground spraying will occur.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed seven cases of either West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease in Texas so far this year. One case of the neuroinvasive disease was confirmed in Denton County. TDSHS recommends following four steps to avoid mosquitos:

  • Wear insect repellent containing DEET.

  • Drain standing water.

  • Wear long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn.

  • Use air conditioning, and secure windows and screens.
