During the June 28 meeting, Collin College board of trustees approved a 43.68-acre land donation from the city of Wylie to build the community college district's fourth main campus.
Wylie City Council also unanimously approved the land donation, which is adjacent to Wylie City Hall on Country Club Road north of FM 544, during its June 28 meeting.
The 415,000-square-foot campus is expected to break ground within the next three years and open in 2020. When it opens, the campus will have a capacity of 7,500 students.
Collin College board also gave college administration the go-ahead to negotiate buying two other parcels of land immediately next to the donated land in Wylie for the new campus. Both parcels are expected to cost less than $2 million.
Collin College board also approved its long-range master plan during the meeting. The master plan includes plans to build a center in Celina and Farmersville. Both centers are expected to open in 2020.
The 120,000-square-foot center in Celina will be under the jurisdiction of the Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco, and the 60,000-square-foot center in Farmersville will be under the jurisdiction of the Central Park Campus in McKinney. The center in Celina is expected to expand by 2025 to be another one of Collin College's main campuses, Collin College President Neil Matkin said.
Collin College currently has three main campuses in Frisco, Plano and McKinney and four centers.
