Although Meredith Tittle’s mother was a physical therapist and owned her own practice, this front row seat into the profession didn’t initially propel Tittle to follow suit.

“I went to Baylor pre-med thinking that was the path I would take and thinking I didn’t want to do just what my mama does,” Tittle said. “But then in my junior year I realized I like the interaction with patients and the idea of getting to know someone three times a week versus a bi-annual office visit or seeing them under anesthesia for surgery.”

What happened

Tittle earned a doctorate in physical therapy and became an orthopedic clinical specialist. She is also a certified Pilates instructor.

After working at her mother’s practice for 18 months, Tittle launched Sole to Soul Professional Pilates Studio in Flower Mound in 2004. In 2009, to encompass the range of services offered, she changed the business name to S2S Functional Performance. In March 2023, she opened a second location in Frisco.

“There isn’t a category for us - we’re not a fitness facility per se, we're not just a physical therapy clinic, we're not just a consulting or psychology place either,” she said. “We are a place for you to feel comfortable, and enjoy movement regardless of your fitness level or stage of life.”

The specifics

The multi-faceted business is broken into three sections of service: physical and occupational therapy, fitness and mental performance consulting.

Tittle said she requires all S2S physical therapists to either have obtained or be in pursuit of a board certification. Patients' ages can range from infant to last stages of life.

“For infants, from an orthopedic standpoint, they can be born with torticollis, a stiff neck, we can treat that,” Tittle said. “All the way through auto neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis ... things like that. We have a high volume of Parkinson's patients we help later in life with balance disorders.”

A variety of fitness classes are taught with a maximum of six students per class.

“We have 60 group classes a week and have a dozen fitness instructors across the organization teaching Pilates, HIIT, yoga and barre,” Tittle said. “You can become a member here and take advantage of all those classes under one roof.”

Mental performance consulting services are provided by certified mental performance consultants and counselors who are licensed in mental health. Issues these professionals address include training to avoid and overcome burnout, healthy coping strategy, performance anxiety and more.

Why it matters

Tittle said clients visit them for the first time for different reasons such as an injury, but what inspires them to return is they fall in love with movement.

“You should steward your body everyday,” she said. “It's not like you brush your teeth for 10 days then you can take 10 days off. We need to think about our bodies like that as well.”
