The details
The town will spend roughly $150,000 to resurface Northshore Park’s engineered wood fiber surface with artificial turf, according to town documents. Playgrounds in Flower Mound use multiple ground surfaces, including wood fiber, turf and pour-in-place rubber, Parks and Recreation Director Chuck Jennings said. The decision to change the surface to artificial turf came from input by the local community, Jennings added.
Jennings said funding for the project came from dedicated sales tax revenue.
What else?
One indoor pool slide and three outdoor water park slides will undergo restoration projects to repair scratches, rough joints and calcium build up. The slide restorations will cost roughly $83,000, according to town documents. Repairs will include sealing joints with water-resistant caulk, and full resurfacing on the slides’ interiors and exteriors.
Documents also state the current slide repairs will prevent more expensive repairs in the future.
“Restoration helps prevent costly structural issues, protects the town’s investment, and ensures residents continue to enjoy a high-quality, safe amenity,” Jennings said in an email.
Jennings said the general fund will finance the slide restorations.
Looking ahead
Installation of the new turf is planned to begin in September, according to town documents. The water slide restoration will also start in September, with completion scheduled for October, Jennings said.
