A cleanup of leaked fuel on several Highland Village roadways, which occurred April 4, is now complete, according to city staff.

Work crews responded to a confirmed fuel leak from a Republic Services truck in Highland Village that took place last Friday, according to a news release.

The overview

City crews placed sand down on major roadways impacted by the spill to absorb the fuel, Laurie Mullens, Highland Village’s director of marketing and communications, said.

A sweeper truck deployed to the area by Republic Services April 4 collected sand in the roadways and finished cleanup efforts, Mullens added.

Some context

According to the news release, the following areas were impacted by the fuel leak:
  • The eastbound travel lane of Highland Village Road between Highland Shores Boulevard and the I-35E frontage road
  • Parts of Highland Shores Boulevard
  • Some neighborhood streets in the area
Mullens said crews with the city’s Public Works Department assessed additional streets that could be impacted and communicated those with Republic Services, which mobilized crews to the area. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the affected areas because of slick road conditions, per the news release.
