The Argyle ISD board approved the creation of a University of North Texas teacher residency program at a Dec. 15 meeting.

What you need to know

The district is partnering with UNT to bring eight teacher residents to elementary schools, according to district documents.

Teachers in training will earn a salary of $20,000 annually, while being mentored by AISD instructors and serving as special education aides, per district documents. Mentor teachers will also receive a stipend of $2,000 annually.

Mentors and resident teachers will be selected after an interview process, district documents state.


The cost

The Texas Education Agency will provide $10,000 per resident teacher and $2,000 per mentor through the LASO 4 Grant Program. The district will provide the other $10,000 per resident teacher.

One more thing

The program is expected to begin in the 2026-27 school year, per district documents.
