Maintenance renovations and athletic facility projects are in the works as Lewisville ISD officials work through the 2023 and 2024 bond packages.

Trustees reviewed the guaranteed maximum prices for several projects totaling $93.5 million at the April 7 workshop. LISD Executive Director of Construction Randy Fite presented the items ahead of their approval next week.

What to know

The first project in the 2023 bond is the second phase of maintenance upgrades to Flower Mound High School including the auxiliary gym, classrooms and auditorium, Fite said. The first phase was completed as part of the 2017 bond. The second phase maximum price came in around $965,000 over budget at a total of $20.7 million.

According to district documents, maintenance and repair projects involve replacing or repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, roofs, fire alarm systems, doors and hardware, audiovisual equipment, classroom furniture and more.

Fite said despite having bids from multiple contractors for the project, the offers were all over budget and contractors cited material price increases from federal tariffs as a cause. The project is set to begin this summer and be complete by summer 2026.

The following 2023 bond projects are also set to begin this summer:
  • Elevator upgrades to Arbor Creek and Huffines middle schools at a maximum price of $262,627
  • Fire alarm upgrades to Lamar Middle School and Lewisville High School Harmon for $1.13 million
  • Electrical renovations at Arbor Creek Middle School and Morningside Elementary School for $2.72 million
  • Restroom, elevator and roofing renovations at Lewisville High School's 1999 academic wing and fire alarm replacement for the entire campus for $3.1 million
Zooming in

Castle Hills Elementary will also receive maintenance and repair work, including furniture replacement, as part of the 2023 bond with a maximum price of $12.8 million. This is the full cost of the project and includes the partial price that officials approved in March.

Construction crews will complete work on the ceiling and above this summer and everything below next summer, Fite said. Liberty Elementary School will receive similar renovations at a maximum price of $14.9 million and will follow the same work schedule across 2025 and 2026 summers.

Officials are also planning maintenance upgrades to Central Elementary School this summer and next summer, but unlike Liberty and Castle Hills, the HVAC systems will not be replaced in 2025 because it will utilize an air-cooled chiller, which has an extended lead time to procure, Fite said. The cost for the project will not exceed $18.8 million.

More details

Additionally, the Flower Mound High School stadium will receive upgrades this summer costing $4.2 million, which is included in the 2024 bond.

Proposition A of the 2024 bond package outlined renovations to the district’s Eastside and Westside aquatic centers and officials are packaging both projects together at a cost of $14.9 million, Fite said. Construction for the Eastside center will begin this summer and complete in summer 2026 at which point the Westside construction will begin. The Eastside center will close to the public throughout the renovation as it is more extensive than the Westside.
Going forward

Officials will bring forward the maximum prices for all the projects for approval April 14 and are currently evaluating bids for multiple high school scoreboard, track, and baseball and softball turf replacements. The bids will be revealed at that meeting, Fite said.
