1. Body Alive

Body Alive opened a new location in Flower Mound in early January.

The Pilates studio offers group fitness classes geared toward all skill levels. Classes at the business include hot mat Pilates, hot power Pilates and a hot body challenge, according to previous reporting.


“We are so happy to have our door open to the amazing Dallas community, we can't wait to grow, empower and engage with each and every person that walks through our doors,” Director of Marketing Morgan Oberle said in an email.

Currently, the Pilates studio is offering free classes to individuals through Jan. 21, and after the free classes a special for $36 that includes unlimited classes for six weeks, Oberle said.2. Golf University

A new golf instruction business, Golf University, is open in Highland Village.

The business, which is owned by Myles Vlachos, offers personal instruction for golfers from swing feedback to working on their short game. Golf University uses a TruGolf simulator, which includes thousands of courses worldwide and provides real-time feedback, for its lessons.


Golf University is related to Vlachos’ other business, Golf Everywhere, which is currently going through the construction process. Flower Mound Town Council approved a site plan for the business last May.Coming soon

3. Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop

Pennsylvania-based Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop is set to open a new location in Flower Mound.

The candy store sells candy, including in bulk, international snacks, chocolates, toys, over 350 glass-bottled sodas and games, according to a news release. The Flower Mound location will also serve hand-scooped ice cream, milkshakes and floats.


Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop also offers its $5 candy buffet, which allows customers to fit as much candy into a box for a fixed price, according to its website.

“We look for towns where people value experiences, downtown areas, and places that bring people together,” said Kate Speer, vice president of marketing and brand development, in an email. “Flower Mound felt like a perfect fit for what we do, and we’re excited to become part of the community and build something that locals and visitors can enjoy for years to come.”What's next

4. TeaCupFuls


A new boba tea shop, TeaCupFuls, plans to move into a space along Long Prairie Road, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.


The business sells a selection of teas, coffee and specialty drinks, according to its website. Stores also sell a variety of different candy.

Construction on the property will occur to finish out a suite for TeaCupFuls. The cost of construction is estimated at $250,000 and is expected to start June 1 before wrapping up June 30, per the filing.Relocations

5. Academy of Aesthetics and Laser


Academy of Aesthetics & Laser relocated to Flower Mound to teach classes on how to help people manage skin concerns, co-owner Jennifer Buck said.


The aesthetics school offers 750-hour classes that last seven to eight months, Buck said. The class sizes are generally 12 students, she said.

Currently, the school offers hydrafacial training and microneedling training with other training programs coming soon, Buck said.

The new location will be twice the size of its previous location in Argyle, allowing Buck to include more classes, such as lash-lifting, brow tinting and laser training, which includes laser hair reduction and any laser treatments performed in a med-spa.Closings

6. The Sweet Shop


The Sweet Shop closed in Highland Village due to declining sales, co-owner Luis Rotundo said.

“Unfortunately, sales were rapidly declining down to a point where the business was not financially viable any longer,” he said. “We had to make the hard decision to close the shop.”

The store sold different flavors of candy including Swedish candy and in-house freeze-dried candies, per previous reporting. In addition, co-owner Erika Radivojevich home-baked custom cakes, fruit tarts, cinnamon rolls, brownies and pies.
