Several city of Denton road projects near the University of North Texas were supposed to wrap up at the beginning of January have been pushed back, city officials confirmed.

Ongoing projects

Alice Street

Project: The street is receiving utility installations and pavement replacement along with the replacement of pavement, curb, gutter, and any sidewalks from Crescent Street to Panhandle Street.


Update: Water main and sewer lateral installation continue on Alice Street with tie-ins scheduled for the beginning of February. The estimated completion date for the utility installation is Jan. 30, not the original Jan. 9 completion date.

Denton Street

Project: The road has been closed due to reconstruction of the street and replacing water and sewer lines from Hickory Street to Congress Street.

Update: Gas line work from Atmos has delayed the city’s construction on Denton Street. This delay is currently estimated to last until mid-March, with roadway reconstruction to follow.

Eagle Drive

Project: The lane closure is due to Eagle Drive being used as a way to get to nearby job sites. The street abuts to roadwork on Avenue A.


Update: The lane closure has been extended to April 2026 to accommodate nearby roadwork.

Mulberry Street

Project: The street is receiving water lines and water vault installations.

Update: The water vault installation was delayed due to not being in the city’s specifications. The engineers approved the new plan for installation and the water vault now. The city is waiting for the contracting company, Tri Dal, to install the waterlines. The final date for water line connection and asphalt completion will be determined at a later date.

Completed projects

Welch Street


Project: The road has been closed or partially closed from Mulberry Street to Hickory Street and from Eagle Drive to Mulberry Street due to utility installations, relocations and pavement replacement.

Update: This portion of the project is now complete with only minor striping remaining.
