A nonprofit organization has expanded into Denton and offers free early morning workouts for men.
The gist
F3 meets twice a week and is part of a nationwide network of free, peer-led workouts. The no-cost or commitment organization is rooted in fitness, fellowship and faith, which is where F3 gets its name.
Kevin Carr is part of the Cross Timbers chapter, which includes Denton, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Lewisville and Coppell.
Carr said five principles make F3 unique:
- Free of charge
- Open to all men
- Held outdoors
- Workouts led by peers in the group
- Always ends with a “circle of trust”
Carr said with these principles, participants can expect manageable workouts for all fitness levels. The workouts are normally bodyweight exercises and can involve cinderblocks, running and team fitness activities.
Currently, the organization meets on Tuesdays at North Lakes Park by the covered picnic pavilion and on Thursday mornings at Briercliff Park. Workouts start at 5:30 a.m. and conclude at 6:15 a.m.
Carr said the locations or days may change based on participant demand.
What else?
The Cross Timbers chapter was founded by David Skelton in 2019, who discovered F3 while living in Birmingham, Alabama.
There is also a Northlake chapter, which serves Northlake, Lantana, Argyle and Justin, and an Alliance chapter.
Carr said he hopes to expand F3 into north Denton County in the future.
