The details
The new hours are part of a one-year pilot program to retain and attract employees, the release states.
The early closure would allow city employees to spend more time on training and uninterrupted work, according to a presentation from city Chief Strategic Officer Aimee Kaslik at a Dec. 2 council work session.
“City employees are the backbone of our organization and are deeply committed to serving this community,” City Manager Sara Hensley said in the news release. “By creating time for focus and collaboration, we’re investing in our people so they can deliver even stronger, more responsive service to Denton residents.”
The following city services will close at noon on Fridays:
- City manager’s office
- City secretary’s office
- Community services
- Community improvement services
- Human resources
- Municipal court
- Utilities customer service
- Police department records
- Procurement
- Building safety
- Economic development
- Development services
- Denton Firefighters Museum
Zooming out
A study by staff found that residents’ requests for city services are lower on Friday afternoons, compared to the rest of the week, Kaslik said at the work session.
Several other cities in Dallas-Fort Worth currently close their administration offices early on Fridays, including Little Elm, The Colony, Lewisville and Carrollton.
Looking ahead
Staff will review employee retention, recruitment and customer satisfaction data, and make a recommendation to council on the new hours in April 2027, Kaslik said.
