Construction wraps on sidewalk, road projects near Denton ISD schools

The roads with new sidewalks include:

• Pockrus Page Road, which was completed in January
• Lattimore Street, Aura Lane and Mulkey Lane, which was finished in February
• Emerson Land and Glenwood Lane, which was completed in March
• Stuart Road was completed in December

The sidewalk projects were part of the city’s Safe Routes to School program, which aims to provide safe pedestrian and bicycle routes for students near DISD schools, according to city documents.

The initiative received funding from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Denton County and grants from the Texas Department of Transportation. Garcia’s report states the projects started construction in May 2025.

“We had various sidewalk segments that were completed with those grand funds. We are done,” Garcia said.

Looking ahead

The city’s transportation services department is currently in the design phase to construct additional sidewalks and bike paths near Newton Razor and Calhoun middle schools.

Designs are scheduled to be completed in early 2027, with construction beginning in fall 2027, according to Garcia’s report.
