From a new sushi restaurant where dishes are presented on a conveyor belt to gourmet ice cream, take a look at several business updates in Denton. This list is not comprehensive.
Now open
The sushi and Japanese restaurant offers several different kinds of sushi and sushi rolls, along with udon and ramen noodle dishes and soup. Kura also has side dishes like gyoza, fried shrimp wontons and sashimi.
The business offers ice cream scoops in bowls and cones, which are made in house. Other menu items include falooda, bubble tea, shakes, waffles and churros. A grand opening will be hosted later this summer.
The shop is a walk-up stand that will offer queso bowls with tortilla chips with the option to add a protein, pico de gallo and salsa. The snack stand will also offer packaged ice cream bars, like paletas and Klondike bars, and soft drinks.
The restaurant offers several Indian and Punjabi dishes, including fish tikka, samosas and tandoori chicken. Instead of a rewards program, the restaurant offers Currywood Coins for those who dine in.
The family-owned restaurant offers slow-smoked meats, homemade sides, sandwiches, catering and a full bar. Fat Down BBQ is only opened Friday-Sunday until sellout.
The business accepts donations and offers curated secondhand goods, including clothing, small home decor and kitchen items, clean linens, blankets and handbags.
Coming soon
The business sells a variety of trading cards, such as baseball, football, hockey and other sports cards. It also sells gaming cards and sets, such as Pokemon cards.
What’s next—Permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
The auto repair company offers dent repair, auto glass repair, paint refinishing and on-site rentals. Construction on the location is expected to finish Sept. 16.

HereAfter Oddities and Tattoos
The tattoo parlor will celebrate its grand reopening and two-year anniversary with a special flash tattoo event and will have sales for its “oddity” items from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 6. Aside from inkings, Hereafter sells unique items, such as a mastodon jaw, in its downstairs store.
The Denton hat store closed its brick-and-mortar location April 18 but will maintain an online presence. Mallouf Hat Company sells several styles of headwear, including cowboy hats, scally caps and trucker hats.
Expansions
Downtown Denton coffee shop West Oak Coffee Bar will open a cocktail bar and expand its coffee service in its upstairs space. The coffee shop will start serving cocktails starting at 5 p.m. after the bar opens for business. The bar will also offer small bites and tapas.
Relocations
The toy shop and vending machine cafe relocated from Lewisville and offers toys, artwork, books and has coffee and snack offerings.
Closings
The restaurant offered several styles of burgers and sandwiches, including a hot honey chicken sandwich and a mushroom Swiss cheeseburger.
Patchouli Joe’s Books and Indulgences
The bookstore staff announced its new lease agreement at 216 W. Mulberry St. fell through and it will close its current brick-and-mortar location, though the owners will still host pop-up events. Patchouli Joe’s sells books, soap, candles, coffee and local artwork.
