New Allen mayor to be sworn in at May 26 City Council meeting

Residents can watch Allen’s next mayor take the oath of office at an upcoming May meeting.

Allen City Council will meet at 6 p.m. May 26 for its regular meeting to administer to swear in newly elected mayor Chris Schulmeister.

What you need to know

Schulmeister won the race for Allen mayor with 3,300 votes, or about 81% of votes cast. Schulmeister ran against Dave Shafer, who got 770 votes, or nearly 19% of votes cast, per Collin County Elections documents. There were 4,070 total votes cast.

Schulmeister will take an oath of office and receive a certificate of election at the council meeting.

Also of note

Council member Tommy Baril will also take an oath of office and receive a certificate of election. He ran unopposed for reelection for the Place 2 position on City Council and received 3,206 votes, Collin County Elections documents state.

Council will also recognize outgoing Mayor Baine Brooks, who has served in the position since 2023. The meeting will also include a brief discussion of upcoming calendar items.
