The site is located within a planned development that is designated for shopping center uses, per city documents.
The Allen Land Development Code does not allow religious facilities in areas designated as shopping centers, so church representatives requested an amendment. This was presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission at a Dec. 16 meeting and was approved in a 5-1 vote, per city documents.
There is an existing building at the site, which city documents indicate was previously a La Petite Academy Daycare.
“The applicant is not proposing to change the square footage of the building in any way,” senior planner Matt Bechtlufft said.
If church staff decide to change or remodel the space, they will need to present their request to the Technical Review Committee, Bechtlufft said.
