During the 2026 State of Housing in Harris County and Houston webinar June 16, local experts discussed key findings demonstrating that rising costs are making it more challenging for Houston-area residents to afford housing.
Per the Rice University Kinder Institute for Urban Research, the annual State of Housing report examines the impact of compounding pressures, offering stakeholders data-driven insights to build a more resilient region.
“I share these survey results as scaffolding for our state of housing findings to show that housing affordability is more than just a dollars and cents issue; it's something that affects the well-being of Houstonians and the region as a whole onto the state of housing report,” Kinder Institute research scientist Stephen Averill Sherman said.
