The Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 board of commissioners is set to review the Cy-Fair Fire Department’s average response times and potential changes to the fire chief's salary during its upcoming regular meeting, agenda documents show.
What you need to know
Commissioner Jaime Martinez added several items to the April 16 agenda, including a discussion about response times over the past several years and CFFD's plan to reduce its average.
Fire Chief Amy Ramon told Community Impact in October that the department has reduced its average response time from 12 minutes to approximately six since 2023, when CFFD received recommendations from a consulting firm to guide operational improvements.
CFFD’s long-term plan to add eight new fire stations throughout the community, in part, aims to bring response times closer to a four-minute travel time, the best-practice goal for urban areas according to national standards identified in the agenda.
According to the agenda, Martinez also requested items to discuss potential changes to Ramon’s salary and a $45,325 payment from ESD 9 to the International Association of Firefighters, a union representing more than 360,000 full-time firefighters and EMS responders.
Also on the agenda
Commissioners are expected to select an architect to lead a remodel of the district’s dispatch center located at 9101 Wheat Cross Drive, Houston. Two firms were interviewed for the project during the board’s March 26 meeting—Martinez Architects and TSK—both of which have experience designing fire and EMS facilities.
The district is eyeing a late summer construction start date for the remodel project, according to a strategic plan update presented to commissioners in February.
