PREVIEW: Cy-Fair ISD board to consider calling bond election for May

LRPC Co-Chair Anya Lucas presented a breakdown of approximately $1.75 billion in infrastructure improvements to the board Jan. 15, with high priorities identified as vehicle replacements, fine arts renovations and athletics upgrades, among others, Community Impact previously reported.

The committee will likely recommend that the district call a bond election to fund the recommended investments, as CFISD has not proposed a bond to voters since 2019. The board’s February agenda includes a report on the status of the 2019 bond, a $1.76 billion referendum that funded a lengthy list of construction projects.

Following the final recommendation, the board will consider calling a bond election for May 2, agenda documents show. Texas law mandates that bond elections must be held at the beginning of May or November.

Other items of note on the board’s February agenda include:

• A public hearing on the district’s Texas Academic Performance Report for the 2024-25 school year
• Revisions to a handful of district policies, including Attendance for Credit, Employee Standards of Conduct, and Student and Parent Grievances
• Potential approval of new instructional materials for more than a dozen advanced courses

The board’s Feb. 5 work session and Feb. 9 regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mark Henry Administration Building at 11440 Matzke Road, Cypress.
