With all votes tallied, Tom Eustace has defeated Christie Exner-Crawford in the runoff race for Jersey Village City Council Position 5 with 68 percent of the vote. A total of 532 people voted in the runoff election, with Eustace receiving 362 votes and Exner-Crawford receiving 170 votes.
Eustace and Exner-Crawford were two of the three candidates running for the position in the May elections. The runoff was announced when neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote. Eustace received 314 of the 628 votes, exactly 50 percent. Crawford received 26.9 percent of the vote, while candidate Joyce Berube received the remaining 23.1 percent.
Eustace, a 35-year resident of Jersey Village, is a member of the city's planning and zoning commission and has served as its chairman in the past. As a commissioner, he played a role in golf course re-zoning, developments such as Prologis and Lakes of Jersey Village, code and ordinance revisions and ETJ planning.
"I have always felt it a responsibility to be active in the community, partially to stay abreast of what's going on and be available to handle or assist in accomplishing the needs of the community," Eustace said. "With the impending development of Hwy. 290 and Jones Road, I am very excited about the future of Jersey Village and want to be a part of that new horizon."
