After the Hwy. 290 expansion project left the owners of Harris County Smokehouse with fewer parking spaces than dining seats, co-owners Tammy and Harry Chambers decided it was the time to move. The husband-and-wife duo, who have been in Cy-Fair for more than 20 years, decided to stay close, however. Their new location reopened across the highway March 19.

“We are already seeing every seat in the restaurant fill up on the weekends,” Harry said. “Sales have doubled along with our size. At first I wasn’t sure if we’d be using all the new space right away, but people have come from all over to see the new building.”

A lot of things changed for Harris County Smokehouse after the move, but the food was not one of them. The breakfast and barbecue plates that have kept customers coming to the restaurant for the past 20 years are still served hot and fresh every day, Harry said.

“Everything we make is still top-grade and made in-house,” he said. “We’re actually working on introducing mini versions of our combos.”

Harry said he is confident in his choice to move, and in the intersection becoming more dynamic.

“The community has shown us so much support, and my employees have all worked so hard,” he said. “You have to take risks in this business. There is no doubt that I made the right choice.”
