District receives statewide honor

This May, Cy-Fair ISD was ranked as the No. 1 school district in Texas for academic and financial performance by the Education Resource Group.

The district earned rankings in the organization's Academic Performance Index and Financial Performance Index.

"Cy-Fair ISD has carried a longstanding reputation for academic success and fiscal responsibility," said Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent. "The ERG has supported these perceptions with strong data reflective of a top-performing district. The credit for this rating goes to our outstanding employees, fantastic board and, most importantly, our great students, parents and community."

The district ranked 25th in the API, which is based on TAKS performance, four-year graduation rates and college admission tests, and ranked third on the FPI, which is based on funded expenditures for instruction, leadership, student support services and non-student support services.

According to the district, CFISD in 2012 had 3,590 more students at the "Met Standard" level than projected, and 2,675 more students at the "Commended" level than projected. Additionally, CFISD spent $160.6 million less than projected, according to the district.

CFISD's ranking by the Education Resource Group increased from No. 9 in 2011 to No. 1 for 2012, according to the district.
