Debbie BlackshearCommunity leader Debbie Blackshear was sworn into her first term in Position 4 on the Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees on Dec. 10. She said she expects the transition to her new role to be a smooth one. “We did a board transition after the election and I think things went smoothly because I have previously established relationships with the board members,” she said. Blackshear served as president of Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union from 1995 until retiring in 2012. Since her retirement, she has donated her time to efforts that seek to make Cy-Fair a great place to live. “I wanted to stay involved in the community because God has called on me to become a servant-leader,” she said. “All the things that I was already involved in were too important to me to give up. If I had retired and dropped out of Cy-Fair, I would have missed it so much.” Blackshear said she decided to run for the school board after co-chairing the bond committee. She joins the board at a challenging time. With two new high schools joining CFISD by the 2017-18 school year, the district is proposing new attendance boundaries to alleviate congestion. “I think the plan the district proposed is a good plan,” she said. “In the grand scheme of things the impact to students is minimal, but if you’re the one who is affected then it doesn’t feel so minimal.”
