Cypress dentist offers thousands of dollars of service to needy kids

"At the beginning of the year, we were talking about our goals for the year and one of them was to give back to the community and provide dentistry for people in need," said Logan

Home to more than 80 kids, Boys and Girls Country was chosen through the National Charity League-Yellow Rose Chapter.

"We felt a calling to help kids so we chose the Boys and Girls Country," Logan said. "It was extremely rewarding to be able to treat these kids and give them something that they don't always have. Apparently, this particular group of kids did not have access to dental care through the state or through other means."

Normally closed on Fridays, the staff came in on its day off to volunteer its time. Eight to 10 children, ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old, were treated.

"We were so excited when we got the offer because we serve a lot of kids and taking care all of their medical needs is a big expense," said Tis Gaston, program services manager or the Boys and Girls Country. "Dr. Logan and her staff really treated the kids well. They didn't make them feel like they were receiving charity."

The office plans on hosting the Loving Smiles event at least twice a year, Logan said.
