Cy-Fair Medical Center Hospital reaches a delivery milestone

On Oct. 13, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital celebrated the delivery of the 50,000th baby born at the hospital since first opening its labor and delivery service in 1984.

The baby girl, named Genesis, was born at 10:45 a.m. to parents Jorge and Brenda Erazo. Genesis weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces, measuring 19.5 inches long.

In honor of the milestone, Genesis’ family was presented with a dessert reception and a certificate commemorating the occasion. Additionally, Marilyn Schneider, first vice president of the hospital’s volunteer auxiliary, sewed a quilt for Genesis.

Hospital CEO Terry Wheeler said the center’s Level III neonatal intensive care unit connects patients to highly skilled doctors.

“That’s one way we’re able to address the needs of the community we serve,” he said. “Developing and improving has been a focus for us.”

Dr. Joseph Castillo, Brenda’s physician, was one of Cy-Fair Hospital’s founding physicians. He joined the medical team the same year that labor and delivery services began, hospital officials said.

"I was put on this Earth to deliver babies," Castillo said. "I always viewed obstetrics as being such a happy field. Being part of the 50,000th baby milestone is a perfect example of why I chose this career. It's always exciting and interesting and is a worthwhile mission."
