Houston-area coronavirus count: 383 cases, 14 deaths added over May 2-3 weekend

Confirmed coronavirus cases continued to increase in the Greater Houston area over the May 2-3 weekend as another 383 new cases were confirmed.

The bulk of new cases came in the city of Houston, which added 188 cases, and Harris County outside of city limits, which added 99 cases. Several other Houston-area counties saw more marginal increases, including Montgomery County, which added five cases, and Brazoria County, which added 14 cases.

Fourteen coronavirus-related deaths also took place in the Greater Houston area over the weekend. Meanwhile, another 188 cases recovered.

Over the course of the week ending May 2, the rate of new cases was similar to the previous two weeks. A total of 1,532 new cases were confirmed between April 26-May 2, compared to 1,517 cases between April 19-25 and 1,658 cases between April 12-18.

An total of 219 confirmed COVID-19 patients were in intensive care unit beds and another 311 patients were in general beds as of May 2, according to data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. Another estimated 78 suspected cases were admitted to the ICU May 2 while 189 suspected cases were admitted to general beds.
