County officials have now confirmed 751 new cases over the past two days and 1,746 new cases over the past week.
As protests over the death of George Floyd continue, the Harris County Public Health Department released a statement asking people to take precautionary measures if they plan to attend a protest.
"When a member of our community comes forward with cries in pain, it is our duty to acknowledge, empathize, and embrace them and listen to them," officials wrote in the release. "As we all slowly take steps to heal, we ask that if you choose to protest, please also consider ways to simultaneously demonstrate love/compassion for our neighbors and our beloved community. We also ask that you take steps to protect yourself and those around you by wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing and washing your hands frequently."
The number of COVID-19 patients in Harris County hospitals rose for the fourth straight day and now stands at 645 on June 1, up from 501 on May 29, according to data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council.
