Caty Johnston began working at Suzybeez Bakery as an intern in 2010 while studying at the Culinary Institute LeNôtre in Houston. In 2016 she purchased the bakery and has since made the business her own.
Under former owner Susan Cummings, Johnston said she learned everything she knows about decorating cakes. Johnston left in 2013 to work for Clark Cooper Concepts where she helped open several restaurants in Rice Village.
Alongside her mother Jan Provine, Johnston said she purchased the bakery, remodeled the shop and incorporated more personal touches into the menu.
“A lot of the stuff that we do now is family recipes,” she said. “Everything is made from scratch in-house.”
