PREVIEW: Jersey Village City Council to discuss utility bond projects, Jersey Drive traffic

The Jersey Village City Council will meet Dec. 15 to discuss approving design, bidding and construction management services for several water treatment plants in the city, as well as the 2026 wastewater collection system rehabilitation.

A closer look

According to city agenda documents, council members will discuss and potentially approve contracts with civil engineering firm HR Green to oversee the design, bidding and construction for the Seattle Street, Village Drive and West Road Water Treatment Plant improvement projects. These improvements were identified as part of the city's 2023 Capital Improvement Plan and include replacing motor components and rehabilitating water storage tanks.

City officials will also consider moving forward with Quiddity Engineering on the 2026 wastewater collection system rehabilitation, which was also identified in the city's CIP. The wastewater rehabilitation project includes several items, including:

• Restoring the underground chamber where wastewater collects
• Repairing pumps so they can reliably move wastewater through the system.
• Replacing critical piping and valves that control the flow and prevent system failures
• Installing odor control

The improvements will be funded through the $20 million utility bond election approved by voters in November, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Also on the agenda

City Council members will also hear and discuss a report allowing a zoning variance at 7342 Senate Avenue, Jersey Village, to allow for a retail pharmacy known as Senate RX. At the same meeting, council will also discuss traffic concerns along Jersey Drive and set the council meeting calendar through May 2027.
