The specifics
With the current proposed tax rate for FY 2026-27, residents would see an $21.60 increase in their taxes for the year compared to the previous.
The proposed rate is based on preliminary calculations from the Harris Central Appraisal District, as actual property valuations should come in late July, along with other tax rate options.
No final actions regarding the tax rate will be taken prior to the designated public hearing and adoption process in August.

Council will also discuss directly billing residents for waste disposal. According to the budget workbook, the city is currently paying $20.70 a month per residence for garbage and recycling services, totaling $530,582 a year.
If council were to change the pay system to bill consumers directly, the city’s savings would allow for a tax rate reduction larger than the total rate increase proposed in the budget.
In turn, this payment change would allow for the city to sustain its pay-as-you-go, or PAYGO, approach to improvement projects, including the City Campus project.
After multiple unsuccessful bond elections dating back to the '90s, Jersey Village City Council decided to fund the first phase of the new city hall construction plans on a PAYGO basis as part of the City Campus project. According to the budget workbook, $9.5 million is currently budgeted for FY 2026-27 for Phase 1 of the project, with plans to construct a new facility that will consolidate city administrative offices, the public lobby and public works.
