The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees will discuss sending a voter-approved tax rate election, or VATRE, alongside a four-proposition bond election in November.
The details
The board of trustees will discuss adopting a tax rate of $1.1569 per $100 of taxable property, which would trigger a VATRE as the proposed rate exceeds the state threshold, per meeting documents.
A public hearing regarding the adoption of the fiscal year 2026-27 tax rate is planned for the Aug. 10 regular meeting, where the board will discuss approving an individual authorized to calculate truth-in-taxation state requirements.
The board of trustees plan to discuss a $1.63 billion bond broken into four propositions, per meeting documents. The proposed proposition structure includes:
- $1.3 billion: school building improvements, and purchase of new and retrofitting old school buses
- $256 million: acquisitions and updates of technology
- $60.8 million: district stadium facility improvements
- $20.1 million: improvement of district swimming facilities
Some context
Texas school districts have the ability to raise a portion of their tax rate by 17 cents over the state threshold. District officials confirmed during the May 7 work session that the board was allowed to raise the maintenance and operations tax rate by 5 cents without voter approval, but a VATRE is required to access the additional 12 cents.
The board of trustees unanimously approved to conduct an efficiency audit during the June 22 regular meeting, per previous Community Impact reporting, which is required in order to call the VATRE.
Also of note
Multiple district policy revisions, additions, and deletions will be discussed with topics ranging from library materials to parent rights and responsibilities.
The board will receive the following reports:
- Efficiency audit results
- Proposed 2026 maintenance and operations and interest and sinking tax rates
The CFISD board of trustees are slated to meet Aug. 6 and 10 at 6 p.m. for a work session and regular meeting, respectively, in the Mark Henry Administration Building Boardroom.
