Lamar CISD’s property value growth expected to increase to 4.5% for 2026-27 school year
Lamar CISD’s proposed property value has increased to 4.5%, building upon the April announcement that the school district would go into the 2026-27 school year with a balanced budget, Chief Financial Officer Greg Buchanan said at a May 19 meeting.
Since the April budget presentation, Buchanan told LCISD’s board of trustees the district has received its certified preliminary property values, which showed the district’s property value growth grew from 3% to 4.5%.
Additionally, the 2026-27 school year’s total revenue is estimated to be $572.2 million, a nearly $10 million increase from what was provided last month.

In a tight race for the Democratic nomination, former Houston City Council member Letitia Plummer beat former Houston mayor Annise Parker with 57,755 votes to Parker's 55,213 votes.
In the Republican runoff for the position, former Harris County treasurer Orlando Sanchez gained 85,132 votes against challenger Warren Howell, who only received 49,288 votes.
In the Democratic runoff race for Harris County district clerk, Darrell Jordan, Jr. secured the nomination with 77,122 votes while challenger Jose "Alex" Maldonado received 32,116 votes. Jordan will now face Republican Chris Daniel for the position on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Target, MD Anderson plans included in proposed Manvel mixed-use development
Manvel’s Planning, Development and Zoning Commission voted to recommend approval of The Presidio, a nearly 393-acre proposed mixed-use development, to City Council at its May 26 meeting.
The project is located east of SH 288 along Hwy. 6 and south of Del Bello Lakes, and includes plans for a Target retail center and a potential MD Anderson cancer treatment center.
According to the proposal, the land use includes approximately:
- 200 acres for commercial use
- 58 acres for residential use
- 22% of the site for open space
- 5 acres reserved for a Manvel civic site

Cypress-area dessert shop All The Crave Cheesecakes will permanently close May 30, per the business's Facebook.
Marlene and Darrel Farmer opened All The Crave Cheesecakes after turning Marlene's hobby of baking into a business, per their website. They offer mini cheesecakes, coffee, and keto-friendly and gluten-free options.
Currently, All The Crave Cheesecakes is only taking walk-in orders, according to its website.

Bed Bath & Beyond to reopen inside four The Container Store locations in the Greater Houston area
Three years after Bed Bath & Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed its brick-and-mortar locations, the home goods retailer is reopening in spaces operated by The Container Store at 98 locations across the U.S., including four in Houston.
On May 16, The Container Store and Bed Bath & Beyond announced the opening of their first co-branded retail location in Fort Worth, with the plan to open dozens of merged locations across the U.S., according to a news release from Bed Bath & Beyond.
The merged store layouts will allow customers to shop by room, integrating assortments from both retailers, according to the release.
