Irving ISD trustees adopt 2020-21 academic calendar

The Irving ISD board of trustees approved the district's 2020-21 academic calendar at a Jan. 21 meeting.

IISD students will begin classes Aug. 17 and break for summer May 27.

Winter break will begin Dec. 21, and students will return to classes for the spring semester Jan. 5. Spring break will be March 15-19, 2021. Spring break is also bookended with bad-weather make up days on March 12, 2021 and March 22, 2021.

Students will be in class for a total of 172 instructional days, while teachers will work a total of 187 days, according to the district.

The district solicited public feedback for the two calendar options presented at the meeting. The approved option, Option A, had students breaking for summer May 27, while Option B had students breaking for summer June 3.

A total of 1,627 respondents took the survey, according to the district. That is broken down into 65.5% of respondents who voted for Option A and 34.5% who voted for Option B.

Correction: A previous version of this story said a majority of survey respondents voted for calendar Option B. In fact, the 65.5% majority voted for Option A.
