1. Houston agrees to $50M deal with The Woodlands to prevent future annexation
Houston City Council voted to amend a Regional Participation Agreement between the city and The Woodlands that requires the township to pay one-sixteenth of 1% of its sales tax to a Regional Participation Fund each year. The agreement, which began in 2007, also provided protection from annexation by Houston until 2057.

2. Harris County ESD 9 proposes FY 2026-27 property tax rate and budget, celebrates Fire Chief
The Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 board of commissioners proposed a fiscal year 2026-27 property tax rate of $0.045 per $100 of valuation during the Aug. 27 regular meeting in a 3-2 vote with Commissioners Rob Paiva and Jaime Martinez opposed.

3. Houston Food Bank breaks ground at new Northwest Houston building
The Houston Food Bank is expanding its reach in Northwest Houston with a new 310,000-square-foot facility. Officials broke ground on the building during a ceremony Sept. 1, marking the latest expansion of the region’s food bank.

4. Magnolia ISD officially approves tax rate at Aug. 24 public tax hearing
At its Aug. 24 public tax hearing, the Magnolia ISD board of trustees approved the new property tax rate and budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The newly approved tax rate is lower than the previously approved tax rate due to the recently passed 2026 bond.

5. 333 Bar & Grill brings new life to historic Montgomery building
A former feed store serving ranchers in the Montgomery area since the 1940’s is continuing its lifeline as a neighborhood bar and eatery. Founded by husband and wife Curtis Barker and Angel Wiener in December 2025, 333 Bar & Grill serves as a gathering space for the Montgomery community.
