At the Nov. 3 special board meeting, the Montgomery ISD board of trustees reviewed a district enrollment report and timeline from MISD Chief of Staff Justin Marino regarding MISD’s re-boundary process.
The plan
MISD is currently reviewing the rate of enrollment growth for its campuses across the district. Marino said previous input from the district's long-range planning committee emphasized “maximizing the use of our existing facilities before considering the addition of new schools through a future bond.”
Some of the current priorities MISD hopes to address with the boundary process are the balance and overcapacity issues at the high school, junior high and elementary school levels.
As it currently stands, Oak Hills Junior High is near its full capacity and current developments are impacting Keenan and Lincoln elementary schools, which are near capacity as well. However, Marino said Lonestar and Stewart Creek Elementary schools currently have space available to address this issue.
Next steps
Marino provided a basic timeline for the next steps of the boundary process until fall 2027.
November 2026: Updated demographic report presented to the board
November 2026: Form district internal committee to review long- and short-term considerations.
December 2026: Reconvene Long-Range Planning Committee
January 2027: Survey community to create guiding principles, goals and objectives for re-boundary process
spring 2027: Create possible scenarios and collect feedback from community
fall 2027: Recommendations to the board to adopt new elementary and secondary boundaries that would go into effect in August 2028.
Throughout the month of December until fall 2027, the MISD board will also provide frequent updates on the state of the boundary process to the public.
